In October 2022, students from Grade 3-5 attended the Vancouver Writers Festival on Granville Island.
Grade 3 students attended a sold out presentation with acclaimed author, Ashley Spires, who has written numerous picture books and graphic novels including her most recent title, The Most Magnificent Idea. Later that day, the Grade 4 and 5 students heard from three different authors, Kevin Sylvester, Kim Spencer and Xiran Jay Zhao.
Both events were lively and energetic, and they were a great showcase of how ideas can come from anywhere and that many different people can become writers. Students had the opportunity to go up to ask the authors questions at the end of each presentation, and it was great to see immediate interest in reading these authors’ books following each event.
