SJS Summer to Discover

At SJS Summer to Discover, we are offering four weeks of fun and interactive programming for participants aged 4–11.

Join us for adventure and discovery in our Vancouver neighbourhood and enjoy parks, beaches and the other beautiful amenities in Kitsilano.

Our camps are open to both the SJS community and the wider Vancouver community.

Camp Information

Dates and Times

SJS Summer to Discover Camps run Monday to Friday from June 17–July 12.

  • Week 1: June 17–June 21
  • Week 2: June 24–June 28
  • Week 3: July 2–July 5 (no camp on Monday)
  • Week 4: July 8–July 12

Before Camp Care: 7:30 AM–9:00 AM
Regular Camp Day: 9:00 AM–3:30 PM (pickup between 3:00 and 3:30 PM)
After Camp Care: 3:30 PM–5:00 PM

Fees

Week 1, 2, 4: $345/week
Week 3: $275/week

Early Bird Pricing: 10% discount on full-day camps until March 31.

Before Camp Care: $12.50 per session, per day
After Camp Care: $12.50 per session, per day

Cancellation: All cancellations are subject to a $30 fee to cover administration and credit card processing costs. See below for more information about cancellations.

Registration Information

Cancellation Policy: Please note, all cancellations are subject to a $30 processing fee. 

Cancellations on, or prior to, May 17 will receive a full refund for the program fee. After May 17, all fees are non-refundable. If you need to cancel your child’s registration in one of our programs, please contact us at summer@sjs.ca.

Merchandise

Each camper will receive one complimentary t-shirt on their first day of camp. Size selection will be prompted during registration. Please note, camp t-shirts are mandatory for Beach Day!

Please note the following changes to Merchandise availability.

From now until Friday, June 14:

  • Camp merchandise can be purchased on your CampBrain account at any time.
  • Campers will receive their merchandise order on the first day of the first week of camp they are registered for.

After Friday, June 14:

  • Merchandise will be available for purchase online each week (for the following camp week) from Monday to Thursday ONLY.
  • Online purchasing will be closed Friday, Saturday, Sunday for the following program weeks.
  • Any online orders made by Thursday will be fulfilled and merchandise will be given to campers on the first day of the week of camp they are registered for.
  • If parents/guardians would like to purchase additional merchandise during the week their child is in camp (or missed the Thursday cut-off) they must do so in person at the sign in/out desk in the courtyard.

Camp Program

At SJS Summer to Discover, we offer a diverse range of programming geared towards every camper! Our programs are themed and always have active, outdoor, craft, and game components related to the theme. They are non-academic and fun-focused!

Week 1: June 17–21

Ages 4–6

Superhero Squad Invisibility? Flight? Super Strength? What’s your superpower? Craft and play with your secret identity.
Wild Animals Take a walk on the wild side as we explore crafts and games inspired by our favorite animals. You’ll be ROARING for more!
Olympians in Action Take your place on the podium! Train for the events, make your own medals and carry the torch through Olympic activities!
Deep Blue Sea Dive deep for a quest under the sea! Set sail across the ocean this week of ocean exploration.
Ready, Set, Go Are you ready for an adventure? Set course for fun as we tackle a week of high energy games and activities.
Forest Fun Experience the magic of the forest! Explore the wonders of the trees, search for woodland fairies, and connect to nature.
Mighty Motors Transport yourself with a week of things that go! If you love fast cars and high-flying planes, come aboard!

Ages 6–8

Sneaky Spies Do you have what it takes to become a spy? Decode secret messages, follow clues, and more. Be the next SJS secret agent!
Nature Nest Our world is filled with wonders large and small. Spend the week exploring the outdoors through games, crafts and activities.
Art All Around We’ll get artsy this week, get inspired by what’s around us, and create some masterpieces to share with everyone!
Sports Squad Team up with your friends for a week of active games and challenges. We’ll get moving with all your favourite high energy activities!

Ages 8–11

Mission Possible Ignite your imaginations, foster creativity, and challenge yourselves to embark on an unforgettable adventure into the realms of discovery and innovation!
Sports & Strategy Attention athletes and activity enthusiasts! Challenge yourself, play a variety of outdoor games, and have fun just hanging out!

Week 2: June 24–28

Ages 4–6

Alphabet Antics Summer fun is as easy as A, B, C! Join us for activities with letters of the alphabet. You’ll be singing “L-M-N-O-P” all the way home!
Once Upon a Time … In a magical land far away, was a group of campers who loved castles, dragons, and more! We’ll all live happily ever after!
Builders & Bulldozers Whether you’re a budding builder, aspiring architect, or future engineer, unleash your creativity, hone your skills, and embark on thrilling construction adventures!
Digging for Dinosaurs Become a paleontologist and discover our world’s prehistoric past! Have fun digging around and exploring the dinosaur era.
Aspiring Artists Explore through hands-on experimentation. Using imaginative play, painting, drawing, and drama you will be a confident artist!
Super Sleuths Crack the code and solve the mystery! Immerse yourself into the world of detective work. Get your magnifying glass ready!
Sporty Summer Lace up those sneakers! We’ll practice sporty skills with teamwork and fun. Join the team!

Build it Up Get ready to roll up your sleeves, grab your hard hats and hammers, and dive into a world of construction and innovation!
Adventure Land Prepare for an unforgettable journey, where every day is surrounded by nature’s beauty, providing the ideal backdrop for campers to explore and embrace the spirit of adventure!
Crafty Campers Where every day is a canvas waiting to be painted with endless possibilities, join us for an unforgettable week of colorful adventures, artistic expression, and boundless fun!
Masters of Mystery Get ready to sharpen your detective skills, unravel cryptic riddles, and become a true master of mystery!

Ages 8–11

Art Attack Express yourself! Paint, sculpt, and draw to share your artistic vision and build your talents.
Field Game Favourites Join us on the field and show us your skills! Stay active this week with team games and friendly competition! Get ready to move!

Week 3: July 2–5

Ages 4–6

To Infinity & Beyond Fly into outer space to explore the galaxy through space-themed games, challenges, and crafts. The fun will take you to infinity and beyond!
Run, Jump, Throw In this action-packed week of games and activities, you will build your skills and use your energy. Get ready to run, jump, and throw your way into summer!
Enchanted Forest Let your imagination run wild! Get ready to dance through nature, befriend woodland creatures, and splash around in water activities.
Primary Picassos Find inspiration outdoors, as so many artists do! We’ll take our art supplies on the go and use all mediums and subjects for our creativity.
Pirate’s Treasure Trove Arrrr! It’s a pirate’s life for you! Find buried treasure, walk the plank, and explore the sea.
Animal Kingdom From the tops of the trees to the bottom of the ocean, we will explore games and crafts inspired by the animals who live there. Join us as we run, jump, fly, and swim into summer!
Move to the Music Let’s move and groove to the music this summer. Between dance parties and creating our own instruments, we will make music and follow the rhythm.

Ages 6–8

Around the World Are you ready for a challenge? Join us as we travel around the globe. Who knows what surprises lie ahead?
Up, Up, and Away Take flight with things that go up! Planes, rockets, balloons… everything will be “up in the air” except our plan for high-flying fun!
Myths and Legends Embark on an unforgettable journey through the realms of imagination, where heroes, monsters, and magic await around every corner!
Active Athletes It’s time to get ACTIVE! Run, jump, throw, roll and more in this busy week of games and movement.

Ages 8–11

Epic Adventures Adventure’s out there! Navigate through the outdoors, sharpen your artistic abilities, and build teamwork skills. It’s going to be EPIC!
Sand and Surf Grab your hat, sunscreen and creativity as we spend the summer exploring the outdoors. Sandcastles, splashing and sightseeing awaits!

Week 4: July 8–12

Ages 4–6

Sports and Action Soccer, basketball, and more! Get in the action this week if you love to challenge yourself and move your body!
Paint and Play Let your creativity flow! We’ll find art all around us as we play our way through the week.
Fairytale Adventures Adventure with other knights and princesses! We’ll read fairy tales, create crafts, and go on a quest that may test even the bravest among us.
Summer Splash Stay cool this summer. Get ready to splash around and cool off after active games. The wetter the better!
Into the Wild Wilderness awaits! Explorers unite! Brave the wild and forge your own path where every step is an adventure!
Under the Sea Get ready to dive in and explore the deep blue sea. We’ll have a WHALE of a time!
Secrets and Magic Calling all magicians! Mesmerize your friends with sneaky spells and clever enchantments. You’ll be having a blast before you can say ABRACADABRA!

Ages 6–8

The World of Wizarding Welcome wizards! Explore potions and herbology, win quidditch tournaments, and help your team win the House Cup!
Colours and Canvas The perfect retreat for aspiring artists of all ages to explore, experiment, and express themselves through the magic of art!
Forest Rangers Prepare to immerse yourself in the ultimate outdoor adventure, where the call of the wild and thrilling escapades await in the untamed beauty of the forest!
Go For Gold Keep your eye on the prize! Compete in Olympic events for your place on the podium and take home a medal!

Ultimate Sports Challenges Are you up to the challenge? Join us in this high-energy week of sports and more!

Summer Camps FAQ

General Camp Questions

What are the operating hours of camp? 

  • The regular camp day runs from 9:00 AM–3:30 PM (pickup between 3:00–3:30 PM)
  • Before Camp Care runs from 7:30 AM–9:00 AM
  • After Camp Care runs from 3:30 PM–5:00 PM
  • Our gates open at 8:45 AM every camp morning, Monday through Friday. 

What can I expect on the first day of camp?

  • Be prepared to stay a few extra minutes during drop-off on the first day so our staff can ensure that we have all of the required information from you. 

What activities are offered at SJS Summer to Discover?

  • We offer a diverse range of activities including sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration, team-building games, themed days, and more. 
  • On the first day of camp, you will receive a schedule from your child’s leader detailing the camp’s activities for the week, based on the program’s weekly theme. Please note that these schedules are subject to change based on weather and participant needs. 

What should campers bring with them to camp?

  • Each day, campers must bring sunscreen, a water bottle, a NUT-FREE packed lunch, snacks, a hat, and any necessary medication. One complimentary SJS Summer to Discover T-shirt will be provided to all campers for their first day of camp. Any additional merchandise can be purchased during registration or on-site by the courtyard entrance during camp days.
  • Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather, with layers that can be added or removed with varying temperatures. We recommend packing a change of clothes in case clothes get wet during the day. Please label all belongings with your child’s name so that we can return any misplaced items.

Are electronics allowed at camp?

  • Electronic devices are not permitted at camp, please do not send your child to camp with devices (eg. cell phones, tablets, video games, etc.). We wish to encourage campers to interact and connect with themselves and their environment during their time at camp. Additionally, we strongly encourage campers to leave any toys/stuffed animals at home, to prevent these items from becoming lost or damaged. 

Are meals provided at camp?

  • Lunch is NOT provided at camp. Please ensure that all campers bring a nut-free, packed lunch every day. Please note that there will be no opportunities for lunch drop-offs during camp. 
  • If a camper does not have lunch, we can provide an assortment of snacks for the camper for a $10 fee. Our staff will communicate this with parents/guardians and the fee will be added to the camper’s account on CampBrain.

My child lost something at camp. Where can I go to retrieve a lost item?

  • There is a Lost & Found box located in the Atrium, (where the children gather for Before and After Camp Care). At the end of every day, unclaimed items found throughout campus are put in the Lost & Found. We keep lost items for the duration of camp and then donate any unclaimed items. 

If English is not my child’s first language, can they attend camp?

  • We welcome campers from all language groups and nationalities. However, in order to ensure the safety of all campers and camp staff, all campers must be able to speak and understand English fluently.

Does my child need to be toilet trained to attend camp?

  • Yes, all campers need to be fully toilet independent, and must be able to toilet without ANY assistance (including accompaniment or wiping) to attend camp. Parents/guardians will be called to pick up their camper if any toileting accidents occur. Repeat accidents will result in dismissal of the program without a refund.

Registration Questions

How can I register my child for a week of camp?

  • You can register your child online via our camp website: CampBrain

Can campers request to be placed in the same group as their friends?

  • Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate requests as our registration is completed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The camp I want to register for is full. Is there a waitlist?

  • If your first-choice program is full, you may add your child to the waitlist and/or select an alternate program for registration. If and when spaces become available, waitlisted registrants will be contacted via email in the order of the waitlist.

Refunds and Cancellations

What is the refund and cancellation policy?

  • Full refunds will be issued for any cancellations before May 17, 2024. Any cancellation requests after May 17, 2024 are non-refundable
  • Refunds will not be provided for inclement weather or for days of camp not attended. 
  • SJS Summer to Discover will do everything we can to avoid program cancellations, however, if the minimum enrolment is not met, programmes may be cancelled. If this occurs, your child will be accommodated in another program or week, where space permits, or you will receive a full refund.
  • If you need to cancel your child’s registration in one of our program, please contact us at summer@sjs.ca.
  • All cancellations are subject to a $30 fee to cover administration and credit card processing costs.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Information

Where do I drop off my child for camp?

  • Parents/guardians must sign their child in with the camp leader each morning at their camp classroom. Campers must not be dropped off in the courtyard.
  • Campers and parents/guardians will enter the school building through the courtyard between our two main entrance doors at 2215 West 10th Avenue.

Where do I pick-up my child after camp? 

  • Parents/guardians must sign their child out with the camp leader each afternoon at their camp classroom, and MUST have a valid photo ID with them. Please ensure the person picking up the camper (even if it is a parent/guardian) is listed on the authorized pick up list and has a valid photo ID. 
  • Pick ups will be between 3:00 PM and 3:30 PM in your child’s camp classroom.

Where do I go for Before or After Camp Care?

  • Before and After Camp Care take place in the Atrium. 
  • For drop off, please enter through the courtyard gate and sign your child in with the camp leader.
  • For pick up, please enter through the courtyard gate and sign your child out with the camp leader. Ensure the person picking up the child has a valid photo ID and is on the authorized pick-up list.

Can I pick up my child early from camp?

  • For early pick up, please email us at summer@sjs.ca as soon as possible with the child’s name, program name, and time of pick up.

Can I drop my child off later in the day?

  • If your child will be late for camp, please email summer@sjs.ca with the child’s name, program name, and time they will be arriving. Our coordinator team will help ensure a smooth drop off for your child.

How can I add someone new to the authorized pick-up/drop-off list?

  • To add a person to your camper’s authorized pick up list, the parent or guardian must contact us at summer@sjs.ca with the full name, phone number, and relation to the child of the person picking up the child, before the pick up.
  • Please note, parents and guardians must also be added to this list—it is not populated automatically.

 I cannot pick up/drop off my child during regular camp hours. What can I do?

  • Before and After Camp Care is available on a per-day basis, from 7:30 to 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM for parents/guardians who are unable to drop off or pick up during regular camp hours.
  • Please note that a fee of $25 will be charged for late pick ups, after 5:00 PM.

Health and Safety

How are safety and supervision ensured during the day camp?

  • Safety is our top priority. All summer camp staff are certified in first aid and CPR and adhere to strict supervision policies and safety protocols for all activities. 

What is the leader-to-camper ratio?

  • Our camps for children aged 6–8 and 8–11 have a group size of 20 campers with two leaders, providing a ratio of 1:10. 
  • Our camps for children aged 4–6 have a group size of 16 campers with two leaders, providing a ratio of 1:8.

 What happens if my child is sick and unable to attend camp? 

  • A child who is unwell should be kept home from camp. Please email summer@sjs.ca in the morning to advise leaders of your child’s absence, including their full name and program name. Participants should not return to camp until they are healthy again.
  • Should a participant become sick during the day while at camp, parents/guardians will be contacted to pick up their child. If parents/guardians cannot be reached, the designated emergency contact will be called. Please make sure the emergency contact listed for your child is current, available and local.
  • Refunds or credits are not provided for any missed days.
