Our Dedicated Community of Parents

Parents are the heart of the SJS community. Our parent volunteers are invaluable in making SJS the strong community it is. Our parents actively volunteer as part of the Parent Association and as Class Parents.

Back to School BBQ

After a long summer break, it’s great to welcome everyone back with food and entertainment! This whole school event is a ‘must’ for students, parents, faculty and staff!

Used Uniform Sales

There are four sales throughout the year. These events are perfect for recycling gently worn uniform pieces or grabbing some much needed replacements, part way through the year when the kids have gone through a growth spurt!

Coffee Socials

The PAE hosts a coffee social each term. Drop in, say hi and have a coffee and a treat! It’s a lovely way to catch up with friends after drop-off.

Holiday Decorating

During celebrations and holidays, the PAE decorates our Junior and Senior Schools, filling the halls with the festive spirit. The decorating team is busy several times a year; Halloween, Christmas, Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day and St. John’s Birthday (May 1).

Lunar New Year

Each year, we host a Lunar New Year Assembly and celebratory Tea. Expect student performances, New Year treats and festive fun.

Grandparents Day

This annual event welcomes SJS Grandparents to the school for a special Assembly and Tea. Our PAE is instrumental in making sure we have enough volunteers on hand to help run the event smoothly.

Book Swap

Our PAE works with our Junior School Librarian and Grade 2 students to bring this hugely valuable event to life. It unites our community and celebrates the ‘use and re-use’ message that we want our students to embody.

Friday Fun Night

As springtime comes, so does Friday Fun Night. The whole school is bustling with fun, games, pizza and refreshments!

Staff Appreciation Event

To thank our wonderful teachers and staff for the incredible and necessary work they do to support, educate and nurture our children everyday, the PAE organizes a staff appreciation event.

PAE Officers

Christine Rauser, Chair

Christine is the parent of Clara and Lynus, both in the PYP. Christine has been a Class Parent and is a frequent volunteer at various school events. She is passionate about SJS and bringing the community together and is very excited to have the opportunity to help further the mission and values of the school.

Cheng-Yi Tong, Secretary

Cheng-Yi is the parent of Amelia in the MYP. Cheng-Yi and her family joined SJS in 2022 and she has volunteered for crosswalk duty and various Senior School PA initiatives. Cheng-Yi has prior work experience in finance, retail and the nonprofit sector. As part of the PAE, she hopes to bring a fresh perspective and to continue to help strengthen the SJS community.

Lili Ma, Treasurer

Lili is the parent of Kayli and Leah, both in the PYP, and she has been a Class Parent. She has over 15 years of experience as an accountant for non-profit organizations which she brings to her role as Treasurer.

Mackie Mack, Officer

Mackie is the parent of Leanne in the PYP. She previously worked in teaching, administration and admissions consulting. She was an active member of the Parent Executive at her children’s previous school, holding the roles of Vice and Co-Chair where she gained experience organizing numerous school events and fundraisers.

Bonnie Vu, Officer

Bonnie is the parent of Maddox and Hallie, both in the PYP. Bonnie has been a Class Parent and has previously volunteered for the school at the Back to School BBQ and doing holiday decorating. Bonnie has experience running large campaigns and event planning as part of her previous job.

Jennifer Wong, Officer

Jennifer is the parent of Chloe in the PYP and has been a class parent. She has experience in event planning, graphics, interior design, space planning, budgeting and project management to bring to the Parent Association.

Sherry Xia, Officer

Sherry is the parent of Evie in the PYP. Sherry previously worked in laboratory sciences. After becoming a parent, she shifted her focus to education and the early childhood years. She has experience planning events while working as the Assistant Manager at the Arbutus Club Children’s Centre. She looks forward to working with other passionate parents to plan events at SJS.
