This fall, the Grade 4s enjoyed an opportunity to try Paddleboarding with Windsure Adventure Watersports as part of their Outdoor Education program. One of the goals of the Outdoor Education program is to expose students to outdoor activities and adventures that they can participate in right here in our local community! Windsure Adventure Watersports runs out of Jericho Beach and has equipment rentals open to the public.
Stand Up Paddleboarding is an accessible activity for the whole family and is suitable for all ability levels! Participants can choose to sit, kneel or stand on the board (or try a mix of all three!) and those who require some assistance and added strength can double up on a board and paddle together.
The students had a blast learning how to paddle through some tricky headwinds and ride the flow of the current to give their arms a well-deserved break. They showed great resilience as they embraced this new activity in chilly conditions and teamwork as they worked collaboratively with their friends to paddle as a team. It’s safe to say they all enjoyed the hot showers that marked the perfect end to their adventure!
By introducing our students to these different adventures, we aim to provide a bank of activities they (and their families) can participate in outside of school and throughout their lives, contributing to student wellness.
