This Wednesday, our Kindergarten to Grade 3 students were treated with a visit from the award-winning author and illustrator, Elly MacKay.
Elly has a background in both education and art, and both the teachers and students were captivated by her creations and miniature worlds. She talked about the joy of making things and the process of playing with paint and different materials to spark her imagination.
She shared her books and stories with the children, then gave them opportunities to explore their own art and storytelling skills. Each grade created a scene in her mini paper theatre by placing paper cut outs on a translucent background and manipulating colour and light to create different effects. Students also decorated their own butterflies and mounted it on another whimsical backdrop. These posters are currently catching filters of light through our library windows. Elly took photos of each creation and will be turning those into a print, which will be sent back to our school next month.
What a wonderful visit with such a talented artist and storyteller to end our year of author visits!
