This year’s Senior School musical production of Mamma Mia! saw four sold out performances at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.
Our Senior students from Grade 7–12 put on an incredible show on stage, in the band and backstage.
We had two alumni join the band for this year’s production, Rayzell Tjandra ‘23 on guitar and Alex Smith ‘21 on drums/percussion, and the audience of friends, family and staff enjoyed cameos in the role of priest from four of our teachers—Mr. Dhakal, Coach Kinman, Ms. de Maleissye and Mr. Mullen—across the four performances.
A big thank you to SJS parents and staff for the team effort in making the production such a fantastic success! From generous Annual Giving donations to costumes, programmes, headshots and the incredible set – none of it would be possible without SJS parents.
Director and Choreographer for this year’s production, Ms. Van Inwegen, said, “After months of hard work, it is hard to believe that the curtain has closed on Mamma Mia! All of the students involved demonstrated perseverance, dedication and tremendous growth throughout the entire production, and it was truly a joyful experience to share my passion for musical theatre with them.
“This exciting production would not have been possible without the enthusiastic support of the entire school community, faculty and staff. Thank you for giving the students the energy to be creative and flex their artistic muscles!”
Rayi (Grade 8), added: “Mamma Mia! was a new and exciting experience this year. As someone who doesn’t usually dance or sing, it was exhilarating to attend rehearsals to learn choreography and learn how to sing.”
