The SJS facilities team were busy over the summer to bring some exciting new additions to the Junior School courtyard, thanks to generous donations made through Annual Giving.
This multi-sensory play area was specifically designed to provide more gross motor development for our youngest students in Junior Kindergarten. The new courtyard additions provide our Junior School students with even more opportunities to explore, be risk-takers, support their gross- and fine-motor skills, help them to exercise self-awareness, be creative, work together, problem solve and build a relationship with and connection to the outdoors.
One of the big changes was the courtyard playground which had a brand new sensory walk, play kitchen and a range of musical instruments installed!

Ms. Jessica Bacci, SJS Junior Kindergarten Teacher, said: “When children have the time, space and freedom to engage in outdoor play they move their bodies, test their limits and reflect on their ideas to develop self-confidence, understanding and resilience. This translates back into the classroom as children are able to stay more focused and explore more self-regulation and problem solving skills.”
